Know what each marker position means.

ConePal combines accepted local gazetteer records with National Highways 2021 asset positions. Every result retains a status so a precise coordinate is not mistaken for an independently verified label.

Position statuses

  • Verified 2021: a marker label has an evidence-supported transfer to a 2021 asset position.
  • Sequence-inferred: a label is projected from neighbouring sequence evidence and is not independently verified.
  • Accepted gazetteer: the published local coordinate is retained without claiming a 2021 match.
  • Source position: an asset coordinate is displayed without a verified marker-post label transfer.

Limitations

Marker posts can be missing, moved, duplicated or recorded differently between sources. Road works, carriageway changes and source age can also affect real-world position. Confirm critical locations against current approved information and site conditions.

Planner use

The Chapter planner uses an approximate 100 metre marker-post spacing rule. It is a planning aid, not an approved traffic-management design or substitute for competent review.
